M-enabling Summit and IAAP 5 years celebration
In June each year, an interesting mix of policy makers, commercial actors and end-users in Washington meets at the M-enabling Summit in Washington DC. The focus is on the possibilities of mobile technology as a driver for inclusion at a global level The organizer is the UN initiative G3ict.
During the last couple of years, the industry organization IAAP has organized a number of sessions in the program where the focus is more practical level. Funka's Chief Research and Innovation Officer Susanna Laurin has for many years been in the program committee for M-enabling in her role as G3ict's representative towards the EU and she also participates in several panel discussions.
Funka contributes actively
One of all exciting themes for this year's event is what impact standardization has on different markets. Chaired by Andrew Kirkpatrick of Adobe, who has also been a speaker at Funka's Accessibility Days, renowned panelists share impressions and experiences from different parts of the world. Funka contributes with among other things by presenting how the European minimum requirements for web accessibility are used far beyond the EU borders.
Another panel that Funka contributes to is about web accessibility in higher education. It is Gregg Vanderheim, founder of Raising the Floor, who leads the conversation about best practices in accessibility work at universities and colleges. The starting point is the successful series of webinars that IAAP has offered on the topic in the past year.
IAAP is already maturing at the age of five, which of course must be celebrated. Chairman of the Global Leadership Council Jay Cardinali and Vice Chair Susanna Laurin lead a prize ceremony where international role models and key people will be recognized.
Stay tuned for a report from the event.
