Feature 4 of 10: Text alternative (ALT-text)

Prototype of supporting features to help write good text alternatives (ALT-text) for images.

You will perform 3 tests. In each test, you go through the process of uploading an image and providing a text alternative (ALT-text) for the image.  

Test 1

In this test, you will have a help function with instructions that will help you write a text alternative (ALT-text) .

  • In the first option, help is available via a tab in the dialog window.
  • In the second option, help is available via a button next to the text field. 

Purpose of test 1

The purpose of this test of this feature is to test the placement of the help function. 

Test 2

In the second test, the text alternative (ALT-text) is generated automatically. 

  • In the first option, the text alternative (ALT-text) is generated via a button. 
  • In the second option, the text alternative (ALT-text) is generated when the image is selected.

Purpose of test 2

The purpose of this test for this feature is to test how the text alternative (ALT-text) should be generated. 

Test 3

In the third test, the text alternative (ALT-text) is mandatory for an image. You need to write a text alternative (ALT-text) or mark the image as decorative. 

  • In the first option, the text alternative (ALT-text) is mandatory to fill in to upload the image.  
  • In the second option, the text alternative (ALT-text) is mandatory but you will have the possibility to skip filling in a text.  

Purpose of test 3

The purpose of this test for this feature is to test if the text alternative (ALT-text) should be mandatory or not.

After each test, we would like you to answer a couple of questions about your experience. We are interested in which presentation you find more appealing.

In total, you will see 3 features with 2 options each and answer 3 surveys.
