Difi chooses Funka to develop guidelines
The Norwegian Agency for Public Management and eGovernment, Difi, with responsibility for overseeing the regulation on accessibility in ICT, has assigned Funka to develop texts, illustrations and code examples of official guidelines for accessible websites.
The guidelines are an important part of our work to disseminate information on the legislation to ensure accessible ICT-solutions, says Torhild Brudvik, Adviser at the unit for digital administration at Difi.
Difi has now launched the website "universal design in ICT". The site consists of checklists and technically structured information, with useful advice and tips on how to design websites using accessibility principles. Funka’s assignment has been to produce texts that both explains the importance of working with accessibility and how to comply with existing legislation based on WCAG 2.0.
Difi wants the guidelines to serve as a digital encyclopaedia. Clear texts, examples and checklists will help to assist people who purchase, develops or manages websites, to meet the requirements of the regulation.
It feels good to work on guidance material as the need for support in this area is enormous, Andreas Cederbom, Head of Analysis at Funka comments. The legislation is very broad, both among providers and website owners, so developing these guidelines is an important task for us.
On 1 July 2013, the Norwegian regulation on accessible ICT-solutions came into effect. It is based on the Norwegian Discrimination and Accessibility Act of 2009, which requires that all new ICT solutions must be accessible from 1 July 2014, and existing solutions by 1 January 2021. The regulation is based on the international guidelines for ICT-accessibility, WCAG 2.0 AA, with some exceptions.
