Funka in EU-project to improve digital health solutions
Empirica, one of our closest German research partners, is leading a strong consortium that has received funding for a new EU project aimed at supporting large-scale deployment of digital solutions for person-centred integrated care, called DigitalHealthEurope. The project will provide centralised support to the digital transformation of health and care policy priorities of the EU Digital Single Market strategy. At Funka, we are looking forward to contributing to this important work.
The project is going to support the European Commission advancing the Digital Transformation of Health and Care in the Digital Single Market, by focusing on three priorities to be followed in the coming years:
- citizens’ secure access to and sharing of health data across borders
- better data to advance research, disease prevention and personalised health and care
- digital tools for citizen empowerment and person-centred care.
DigitalHealthEurope brings together 17 partners with longstanding leadership and engagement in the whole spectrum of activities, from interoperability and standards to health service innovation and accessibility, and from the technical to the policy level.
This is a strategic and long-lasting impact project, says Roberto Zuffada, project manager at Funka. DigitalHealthEurope is built upon the achievements of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA) currently coordinated by Funka through the WE4AHA project.
DigitalHealthEurope will orchestrate and deliver support to the European Commission and key players, by facilitating the replication of highly impactful best practices through so called twinning, a European Union instrument for institutional cooperation between Public Administrations of EU Member States and of beneficiary or partner countries. Stakeholders will also be encouraged to take action in collaborative activities such as experience-sharing.
Collaboration platforms for initiatives on standardisation, accessibility and management of health data
The project will establish and manage three collaboration platforms to align all efforts of ongoing and future initiatives supporting the three priorities for the Digital Transformation of Health and Care, focusing on standardisation, accessibility and management of health data in a cross-border context. The collaboration platforms will be set up to enable organisations to find suitable partnerships, to provide citizen access to and management of aggregated health data throughout the EU, and to empower interaction between citizens and healthcare providers.
Funka will lead the first work package of the project, where information about existing digital services for person-centred integrated care will be collected via desk research and prepared for analysis. Further on, Funka will also lead the process of building up a funding advice and support service for person-centred integrated care initiatives, covering public EU funding sources as well as private sources and other kinds of assistance measures on both EU, national and regional level. In this task, the database structure and lessons learned from the EIPonAHA portal will be used, further developed and enhanced.
