Two-day work to strengthen cooperation among Mediterranean Diet regions

The MD.net Project, co-financed by the ERDF under the Interreg MED Programme, has been successfully kicked off in Pollica (Campania, Italy) on 17th and 18th September 2018 in the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano.

The aim of the MD.net Interreg MED is to identify routes and activities of international cooperation aimed at stimulating local development of the emblematic communities of the MD. The focus of Campania in this proposal is the Cilento area.

The Mediterranean Diet has been appointed the recognition as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity, recognized by UNESCO in 2010. Furthermore, in 2012 the MD has been included by the FAO at the top of the list of the most sustainable diets on the planet. The double recognition of healthy diet and life style generated a new approach to this cultural heritage by the stakeholders who are progressively recognizing that it may become a new tool to develop green economy and sustainable tourism.

This two-day work provided the partners with the opportunity for meeting Campania partners and local Stakeholders of MD emblematic communities in the Cilento area, and presented the state of the art of MD in the international partners’ regions. This approach relates the territorial development with immaterial assets such as the emblematic communities of the MD.
