Introduction to creating accessible documents

For whom?

This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to create accessible documents and PDF files. It is aimed at those who have never worked with accessibility before and focuses on giving you a solid foundation.

To get the most out of the course, it is helpful to have basic prior knowledge of accessibility through our course Introduction to accessibility. However, this is not an absolute requirement.

About the course

In this course you will learn the basics of creating accessible documents. We will look at what you need to consider when creating the document, what you need to keep in mind during the workflow, and what techniques you need to use when editing in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

We will also look at a number of tips and tricks to make the process easier. .

At the end of the course, you will have an understanding of what an accessible document is, what you need to do to meet legal requirements, and what tools you can use in your pre-processing.

This is an advanced course. To get the most out of this training, we recommend that you first complete the Introduction to Accessibility.

Course content

• Basic understanding of accessibility and why it is important.
• What to consider before creating a document.
• General considerations on how to make preprocessing in Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign easier.
• Basic tips on finishing work in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
• Understanding of formatting of images, paragraphs, templates and links.
• Tips and tricks to make accessibility work easier.

How is the course delivered?

The course consists of two parts; a self-paced course followed by a expert-led live session. 

Self-paced course on-demand

With this self-paced course, you get a basic overview, but also the opportunity to focus on selected areas that you have a particular need for. You can access the course when it suits you. The course is divided into parts - take one or more at a time. You can also use the course as a knowledge base; the search function makes it easy to find what you need.

• Access to the course on-demand on Funka Academy's learning portal for 6 months.
• 10 parts, totalling 2 hours and 45 minutes of recorded films and reference material.

Add a live course session

Do you need more advanced skills? Perhaps you are in, or about to enter, a role that requires in-depth knowledge of accessibility? Or do you simply feel that you learn best and most from live training?

We offer a supplementary course session as an extension and continuation of the self-paced course. It focuses on developing and applying your knowledge with opprtuinities for discussion, practical exercises and interaction.

• Live expert-led course session, 4 hours including short breaks, 14:00 - 18:00, CET Central European Time 
• Funka's Certified Accessibility Experts lead the sessions.

After the course

After completing the course, you will receive a digital Funka Course Certificate showing that you have participated and the scope and content of the course.

You have continued access to the on-demand course material and knowledge bank for 6 months from the date of order.
