Communicating in plain language

Plain language is about adapting texts to the audience and including all readers. Plain language is also about complying with the Language Act, which clearly states that all public organisations should write in a "careful, simple and comprehensible way".

For whom?

The course is mainly aimed at web editors, communicators and writers.

To get the most out of the course, you should have basic prior knowledge of accessibility, either through our course Introduction to accessibility, or acquired in another way, for example through practical work. However, this is not a requirement for the content of this course.

About the course

Do you want to learn how to write in plain language? Welcome to an educational, interesting and fun course! We go through how the language law should be interpreted and how you should write to get your message across to as many people as possible. We mix theory with exercises and discussions.

Plain language is the basis for all understandable communication. There are concrete rules that you can follow when writing.

But in order to reach all readers, you need to adapt your texts to those who have difficulty absorbing information - and there are many of them. This is why the course is also about people's different reading abilities.

Simple, comprehensible texts that are adapted to the recipients help everyone: people with reading and writing difficulties, stressed readers, learners of Swedish or people with cognitive disabilities.

Course content

During the course we will cover, among other things:

  • What is accessible language?
  • The Language Act and the Web Accessibility Directive
  • The different abilities of readers
